My take

The Die Cast 3R is the answer to "I love the idea of a Doxy but I refuse to be tethered to a wall." Same metal-body Doxy DNA, USB-charged, about 90 minutes of runtime, and roughly 80% of the Original's peak power by feel.

The trade-off is real but not crushing. You lose a notch of the low-frequency rumble at max — the Original still wins on the absolute high end. But within the range most people actually use, you'd struggle to tell them apart blindfolded.

The build quality is the genuinely impressive thing. The body is heavy die-cast aluminum, which sounds excessive until you've held it and realized this toy is going to outlast three of whatever cordless wand you owned before. I dropped mine on tile once — I winced; it didn't even chip the paint.

What I liked
  • Cordless freedom at Doxy power levels
  • Same indestructible metal body
  • ~1.5 hours battery life
What I didn’t
  • Heavier than most cordless wands
  • Charge port is fragile if you stress it
